Sharing my 3.5 million dollar case back opener knife!

Apr 26, 2024,02:16 AM

Well… I confess I actually bought my little French cheese knife for just a fraction of that price.

Let me explain that the idea of this shot and funny post title with this little and practical (and inexpensive) French knife came after reading in internet that a similar knife recently reached that high price at auction… though accompanied by a very rare Rolex rattrapante chronograph reference 4113 of which only 8 examples are known.

The watch belonged to the collection of a well known Italian watch collector and was auctioned in Monaco a few days ago.

The reference to this knife came due to a very popular video in which this collector opened the case of this watch with a similar knife surprising so much the viewers of that video.

Here the original picture which inspired me.
(Picture from internet)

Best cordial regards
Abel

PS: I share a few shots of my recent arrived ref 126500LN:

Well...

to come full circle... the climax of this story would be to make a video in which you try to open the ceramic Daytona with the aforementioned cheese knife. 😬

Or remove the stickers

with said knife... Cheers Marc

Hehehe, I've heard of watches referred to as

having lives of their own. Stickers then...

Ha ha ha ha!! Ah yes! Objects have their own life!! Lol!!

My previous experience with stickers is that new watches get rid of them very fast!! Cheers! Abel

Hehehe, good one, amigo Abel. :)

I'm reading very negative reviews about this auction.

Thank you Alex. Regret to say I didn´t read about it. Just found the picture and was intrigued by the knife (which I know very well) and the inscription on its handle.

And of course I remembered the video scene which has been commented so many times in internet places. Best, Abel

recent arrival! Cheers Marc

I know exactly who you are referring to.

When I watched him open the back of that case in such a casual manner, I almost fell out of my chair. By the way, congratulations and your beautiful acquisition. Wear this in the best of health. All the best, my dear friend, Tony

Hello dear Tony! Thank you so much for your kind comments and greeting. Yes, I guess all viewers (me included) of that video were amazed to see how he took the knife so nonchalantly and proceeded...

... to open the case. Appreciate your kind good wishes my dear friend Tony!! Best cordial regards, Abel

Clear proof that hype is created by people not objects

A previously worthless knife and a rare watch that most likely never touch a wrist maybe the padding of a safe… But yes, I know, diferent strokes for different folks… I was just thinking loud for a second! Now yours on the other hand is more than ready to...

Thank you for your kind message and comments ZSHSZ! Agree with your thoughts. Thank you for your kind good wishes. I also hope it will became vintage with me as it happened with several...

... watches I own since I bought brand new more than forty years ago. This new model Daytona I find very interesting and lovely. Specially for its steel ring around ceramic bezel which is thinner and reminds me of the early reference of this classic model...

I have seen some older watchmaker / service guys wield the knife to remove sping bars and casebacks.

 By: Bill : April 26th, 2024-15:16
They seem to have great control but they are mostly changing quartz batteries. But you never know this may be a best practice for some casebacks. Love the Daytona. Have a great Friday. Bill

And there is something waiting for you there!

Ha ha ha!!

 By: Subexplorer : April 27th, 2024-17:02

Ahh yes Bill! I have seen that here too. Agree with you it is not the best practice. I have also seen the results in the case backs many vintage watches through the years.

Thank you so much for your kind comments on the Daytona. Have a nice Friday too and a relaxing weekend! Best cordial regards, Abel

This is an issue specially important here in my country where the security has been deteriorating so much along the last decades. To wear a high end watch… and specially Rolex is getting impossible except in very few places or occasions. This reduces the ...

Same in NYC and really all over the world.

The only place I feel comfortable wearing something like this is Middle East. Crazy thing it’s safer to wear a platinum FPJ in NYC than a SS Rolex.

Sad to read that Greg. Regrettably Rolex watches seem to be the favorite brand among robbers around the world. Agree with you...

 By: Subexplorer : April 27th, 2024-23:19
... that some brands like FPJ are less known by robbers as well as other high price brands. Rolex are easier to convert in cash anywhere. I used to enjoy my watches when traveling to USA or Europe in the past, but I am not very comfortable right now. Anyw...

Thank you so much dear Captain!!
