Cortina Watch, an established and leading watch retailer in Asia and authorized dealer of IWC, celebrates its 40th anniversary in 2012. To mark this milestone, Cortina Watch will present a series of events which include a collaboration with IWC Schaffhausen to unveil the Portuguese Automatic Edition Cortina Watch 40th Anniversary.

The Portuguese Automatic Edition Cortina Watch 40th Anniversary is a special edition of the Portuguese Automatic Edition 2012 (Ref. 500124), which is limited to 250 pieces worldwide. Out of the 250 pieces, 40 pieces will feature a special engraving that embellishes the sapphire glass back, commemorating Cortina Watch’s 40th anniversary.

Founded in 1972, Cortina Watch first started as a small watch shop located at Colombo Court. Today, the Cortina Watch name is synonymous with quality timepieces, and boasts over 20 successful outlets in Asia, including Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, Hong Kong and Taiwan.

“Cortina Watch is proud to collaborate with IWC yet again to launch our 40th Anniversary special edition timepiece. We first partnered with IWC during our 30th Anniversary for the IWC Portuguese Rattrapante Split-Second Chronograph back in 2002. Once again, a testimony of the strong business partnership we have with IWC,” says Mr Jeremy Lim,       Chief Operating Officer of Cortina Watch.

“Our watches have enjoyed an excellent reputation in South East Asia, also thanks to the good work of Cortina Watch,” says Mr. Goris Verburg, Managing Director of IWC South East Asia. “This special edition is a sign of trust of the long-standing and fruitful partnership between IWC and Cortina Watch.”

The Portuguese Automatic Edition Cortina Watch 40th Anniversary is a classically beautiful timepiece that combines the traditional and the contemporary with the art of watchmaking from Schaffhausen.  The classical, large dimensions of the case house the voluminous IWC-manufactured 51011  calibre. The case, made of 18-carat red gold, is combined with black alligator leather strap, a brown-coloured dial with twinkling sun-pattern finish and red gold numerals, hands and hour indices.

The beauty is and elegance of this timeless watch is further enhanced with an outstanding movement that includes the Pellaton winding system, a 7-day power reserve and date display. The balanced design of the dial with its appliquéd Arabic numerals, railway-track-style chapter ring and slender feuille hands retains the classic appeal of the legendary original Portuguese first manufactured in the 1930s. The small seconds at “9 o’clock” and the power reserve display as its optical counterpoise at “3 o’clock” give the dial a harmonious balance - classical, elegant and immediately unmistakable.

The solid, convex sapphire glass has an antireflective coating on both sides. The see-through sapphire-glass back, imprinted with the gold Cortina Watch logo and the commemorative 40th anniversary, provides a fascinating view of the unique mechanism and the beautifully milled rotor with the solid gold Probus Scafusia medallion, at the heart of the Portuguese Automatic Edition Cortina Watch 40th Anniversary.

Since its debut in 2000, the Portuguese Automatic with date display has established itself as one of the most successful Portuguese models ever to leave Schaffhausen. The generous dimensions, the clear lines and the distinctive design put the watch in a row with other cherished icons.
