A. Lange & Söhne celebrates the 20th Anniversary of the Lange 1 in Singapore
2014 heralds a remarkable anniversary for A. Lange & Söhne, German watch making powerhouse, who celebrated the 20th Anniversary of the Lange 1. The iconic Saxon-make model is not just renowned for its asymmetric, overlap-free displays and the recognisable oversized date and its multitude of accolades. On this special occasion, it stands out for being one of the four timepieces that was presented after the re-establishment of A. Lange & Söhne in 1994 – five years after the historic opening of the Berlin Wall and the re-unification of Germany.
With this evocative history in mind, special guests and VIPs gathered at the Singapore Botanic Garden’s Corner House on 27th November for Lange 1’s 20th anniversary. A. Lange & Söhne hosted two intimate sessions over lunch for 30 invitation-only guests, and dinner for an exclusive group of 30 Boutique VIP customers.
Attendees were welcomed with a cocktail reception, during which a mini exhibition showcased almost the entire Lange 1 Collection. The highlight was of course the display of the first 4 watches that debuted 20 years ago, when A. Lange & Söhne marked its return to watchmaking. These four watches, The Lange 1, Saxonia, Arkade, and Tourbillon “Pour le Merite” were all testament to the brand’s vision and promise to make the best watches in the world.
The main meal commenced, with a welcome message by the brand’s Managing Director of Asia Pacific, Mr. Franck Giacobini, who thanked the customers for their continued support and love for the brand.
Following the first course, Joanna Lange, technical trainer with the Lange Akademie, introduced the anniversary celebration and its poignancy. A video presentation ensued; capturing the history of A. Lange & Söhne from its retreat into reclusion after the war, and its proud re-establishment after Germany’s re-birth.
Against the tinkle of the piano, the moving piece of original black-and-white to modern imagery and sound bytes conveyed the essence of decades gone past and arguably changed set a more emotive tone for the rest of the occasion.General Manager for Southeast Asia and Australia, Ms. Michelle Chen, also made a toast to the brand’s astounding journey – past, present and future.
Without a doubt, the climax of the event was the product presentation of the latest novelties. The beautiful timepieces were presented to the guests during dessert, tobe appreciated up close. These included the recently debuted Lange 1 Tourbillon Handwerskunst Anniversary Limited edition, limited to 20 pieces, the Lange 1 20th Anniversary Sets, The Richard Lange Tourbillon “Pour Le Merite” in white gold, and the Langematik Perpetual in white gold, which were all met with much delight and admiration.
All in all, A. Lange & Söhne’s 20th Anniversary of Lange was a unique tribute to the brand’s stronghold through the times, and true the motto that watches and people should be expected ‘to never stand still’.
