Chopard Mille Miglia GT XL Chrono 2010 - A great sporting classic

May 01, 2010,09:32 AM

As Chopard’s emblematic sports watch that has come to symbolise the world’s most famous classic car rally, the Mille Miglia remains loyal to the annual event that has made it a classic in the field of luxury watchmaking. Immediately recognisable thanks to its natural rubber Dunlop Racing strap, it appears in 2010 in a 44 mm-diameter steel case housing a self-winding chronograph movement chronometer-certified by the COSC.

The strength of true classics is that they simply never age, provided they are perpetually reinvented. The Mille Miglia watch is one of the great watchmaking classics, an iconic sports watch that is annually reinterpreted by Chopard. The 2010 model is certainly a match for the reputation established by its illustrious predecessors. A powerful design combined with sterling technical qualities make this 2010 another great vintage. The Mille Miglia GT XL Chrono 2010 is distinguished by a generous 44 mm case in steel or 18-carat rose gold, framing a vintage-style design with elongated numerals that are nonetheless in tune with the spirit of the characteristic Mille Miglia numerals. The same goes for the rhodium-grey engine-turned finish reminiscent of vintage sports car dashboards, along with the minute circle in black and red – the colour of the legendary race that attracts the best OR crème de la crème of classic cars to the route running from Brescia to Rome and has been sponsored by Chopard for over 20 years. The case is water-resistant to 100 metres and fitted with a bezel bearing a tachometric scale, as well as a screw-lock crown adorned with the famous Mille Miglia arrow and broad chronograph pushers controlling functions that are more readable than ever thanks to the dial design. The translucent black PVD limited edition inscription on the sapphire crystal case-back is inspired by the race numbers of the cars taking part in the rally. The readability is further improved by anti-reflective sapphire crystal on both faces.

The Mille Miglia GT XL Chrono 2010 is equally impeccable from a technical standpoint. Its mechanical self-winding movement beating at a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour – 4 Hertz – is visible through the transparent case-back. Chronometer-certified by the COSC, it features a 46-hour power reserve which drives the hour, minute, date, small seconds functions, as well as the chronograph and its central seconds hand, along with 30-minute and 12-hour counters. It is also equipped with a stop seconds mechanism enabling time-setting to the nearest second.

The Mille Miglia GT XL Chrono 2010 is secured firmly to the wrist by a natural rubber Dunlop Racing strap featuring a design echoing that of the 1960s racing tyres and fitted with a folding clasp.

The Mille Miglia GT XL Chrono 2010 is available in a limited steel edition of 2010 or in a 250-piece limited edition in 18-carat rose gold.
