Philippe Wurtz's New Project - CAMINADE

Well-known for his highly accurate and efficient precision pendulum clocks, Philippe Wurtz once again demonstrates his innovative skills with his new project, "CAMINADE."  CAMINADE is a half-second pendulum clock and will be the only table (mantle) precision pendulum clock available today.

With its ethereal design, solid construction, innovative features and high accuracy, this clock will fit perfectly into Philippe Wurtz's current portfolio.

The CAMINADE's main characteristics:
- Two months' running with a horizontal tungsten weight. The strings and pulleys are hidden in the pillar of the case.
- Instead of plates, two rods hold up the gears. The wheels are all "flying": the bearings are on one side of the wheels so that the clockwork is remarkably flat. The two rods and the rings form a figure similar to the logo that stands for the Philippe Wurtz brand.
- An epicyclic gear makes it possible to rewind without stopping the movement.
- A large wheel with 400 teeth drives the minute wheel.
- Minutes are indicated in the wheel with the numbers 00-55 and division marks.
-  The 60/1 ratio between minutes and seconds is mastered with only one gear step. A wheel with 660 teeth – the first of its kind – drives the escape wheel and the second hand.
- The hour hand driven by a magnetic gear is a feature which is used only in Philippe Wurtz's clocks. This gear has a ratio of 1/12 with no friction, making it easy to adjust the time (e.g. for daylight savings time).
- The half-second pendulum has an Invar rod and a heavy brass bob with temperature compensation.
- A fine-tuning gear on the top of the pendulum and aneroid air pressure compensation ensure the best accuracy.
- As in all of Philippe Wurtz's clocks, the pendulum swings on knife edges. The patented suspension device gives the knife edges an accurately defined position.
-The escapement is a brand-new construction that combines three major benefits:
  1. – a "seconde morte" escapement: although the pendulum swings once each half-second, the second hand only jumps on full seconds.
  2. – a gravity escapement: the energy transferred to the pendulum with each beat is absolutely constant. This ensures uniform amplitude of the swing and constant period.
  3. – a zero torque release escapement. This construction greatly increases efficiency by placing very little torque on the escapement wheel in comparison with common escapements. This means lower driving weight, less wear and higher accuracy. More details about this ingenious feature will be posted soon on Philippe Wurtz's Facebook page. The CAMINADE will require less than four microwatts of power.

Dimensions: H 52 cm x W 28 x D 21

Why the name CAMINADE?
The word Caminade derives from the Latin word "caminus", or fireplace.
And the mantle of a fireplace is a perfect scenario for displaying this remarkable clock.
