Mr Kazuo Takeoka of Seiko Epson, which makes the Spring Drive Grand Seiko amongst other things, has been awarded the Medal with Yellow Ribbon by the Government of Japan for his contributions to watchmaking in Japan. Takeoka-san is a highly experienced watchmaker who now teaches the next generation of watchmakers at Seiko. Other Seiko watchmakers who have received this medal include Kenji Shiohara of the Seiko Epson Micro-Artist studio that makes the Spring Drive Eichi (my photos below) and Sonnerie.

Congratulations to Seiko and Takeoka-san!

Press release:

SEIKO watchmaker receives an award from the Japanese government.

The government of Japan has just announced that Mr Kazuo TAKEOKA has been awarded the "Medal with Yellow Ribbon" in recognition of his services to watchmaking. The award is given to individuals who, through their diligence and perseverance while engaging in their professional activities, become public role models.

Since joining SEIKO EPSON CORPORATION in 1975, Mr TAKEOKA has won several watchmaking competitions, including the 23rd WorldSkills International Competition in 1977. He was the first ever winner from Japan. Today, he teaches SEIKO’s younger watchmakers, handing down his skill and expertise to the next generation of master craftsmen.

Kazuo TAKEOKA is the fourth SEIKO craftsmen to receive  the Medal with Yellow Ribbon. He joins an exclusive group alongside Mamoru SAKURADA (2005), Kenji SHIOHARA (2006) and Kiyoshi TERUI (2007).

SEIKO WATCH CORPORATION is proud to  congratulate Mr Takeoka on his award.
